Elemental Continues Pursuit of Unified Infrastructure

At Elemental Technologies’ Saturday press conference, Chief Marketing Officer Keith Wymbs
described  how major media organizations, including customers such as Comcast, are seeking to
fulfill consumer  desires for a “unified” video experience, one that blends live, on-demand and
existing video.

He cited digital networks such as CNNGo and Shift by MSNBC as media companies investing in
Elemental  technology to facilitate this unified experience. Jennifer Leung, director of product
development for msnbc.com, spoke about Shift’s use of Elemental Delta and Elemental Live
technologies to build the recently launched digital network’s video infrastructure and delivery
system.

The company also highlighted its new Elemental Statmux, describing it as the first software-based
multi-codec, multi-resolution statistical multiplexer. Wymbs explained that, in utilizing Statmux,
facilities can mix and match codecs within their workflows and delivery networks and thoroughly
optimize bandwidth usage while putting forward new linear and OTT service offerings in a unified
approach.

At the NAB Show, Red Bull Media House is using its Elemental video processing to livestream
premium 4K HEVC content, which originated in Austria from a 1RU encoder and was delivered via
MPEG-DASH for distribution in Las Vegas over the Akamai CDN. This content can be viewed in both
Akamai’s booth (SL3325) and Elemental’s booth (SU2724).
